With the holidays upon us, we can get easily run down with all the hustle and bustle of the preparations and parties to attend!
Your immune system can get overtaxed and overwhelmed, and stress can be a viable root cause of that.
To stay healthy this coming season, consider setting aside 15 minutes each morning before you rise to introduce a meditation practice to the start of your day.
This can be a daunting task of sitting still and relaxing your mind, especially for those of us on the go, but the positive effect on your stress level and overall health will be well worth the time and investment!
Over time, this will become easier to drop into a peaceful space on demand.
Here are some tips to assist you in beginning this valuable time investment in your health:
Still your body. Sit up comfortably in bed or choose a cozy chair and close your eyes to concentrate.
Take a deep breath and notice the sensation of your head, hands, arms, legs, and feet.
Become infatuated with your breath and notice the rise and fall of your chest as you inhale and exhale. Stay with your breath.
Keep your swirling thoughts in their place and draw your attention to the quiet space of peace within the center of the whirlpool of your thoughts. This is called the “still-point“. Rest in this space for several minutes.
Draw attention once again to your breath. Notice your body and the environment around you. Notice the sounds and sensations outside of you. Quickly rub your hands together and create heat and then place your cupped hands over your closed eyes and begin to slowly open your eyes.
At this point, it’s time to take one last deep breath and prepare yourself to start your day.
